It has all the atmosphere of a crime-scene investigation
The Guardian

is an immersive, online exhibition that tells the fascinating stories of artworks that have disappeared. Destroyed, stolen, discarded, rejected, erased, ephemeral – some of the most significant artworks of the last 100 years have been lost and can no longer be seen.

Visitors to this virtual exhibition enter a large warehouse where photographs, newspaper cuttings, letters, images and films are laid out for examination, revealing the last traces of lost works by over forty artists across the twentieth century, including such figures as Marcel Duchamp, Joan Miró, Willem De Kooning, Rachel Whiteread and Tracey Emin.

will last for one year before itself being lost. It launched with over twenty artworks and a new work will be added each week until the site is complete.
