AMBruno’s Finale

26 September 2025 at 13.30–17.00

Courtesy of AMBruno

An afternoon of performances, talks and artists’ books to celebrate AMBruno’s new, and last, project Finale

The artists’ alliance AMBruno has, since 2008, facilitated the development and dissemination of the book as primary medium in art practice. A distinctive feature of this initiative is that works are produced to a given topic for each new annual project, following an open call.

At the beginning of this year, a call was issued for proposals for new artists’ books conceived in response to the subject theme of Finale – as, for instance: conclusion, farewell, final scene, coda, denouement. A selection from these written proposals was made by Robert Bolick, curator of Books On Books, and the resulting 18 books by 19 artists will be presented at Tate Library and Archive Reading Rooms on 26th September.

The Finale artists are Karen Blake, Laure Catugier, Claudia de la Torre, Judy Goldhill, Susan Johanknecht & Katharine Meynell, Rafael Klein, Pauline Lamont Fisher, Philip Lee, Sophie Loss, John McDowall, Alastair Noble, Linda Parr, Ximena Perez Grobet, Peter Rapp, Mireille Ribière, Cally Trench, Maria White and Roy Willingham.

The afternoon’s events will include performances, screen works, readings, a talk by Robert Bolick and presentations by some of the artists on their books. Central to the event are the performances, for which participating artists were invited to impart the concept and intrinsic character of their book by other means.
