Olivia Laing is one of the Britain鈥檚 leading writers and critics. This event marks the publication of Funny Weather: Art in an Emergency, a new collection of Laing鈥檚 essays on artists, writers and musicians. Joining her in discussion is the celebrated photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, with the conversation chaired by writer and editor Jennifer Higgie.
The talk will be followed by a book signing.

Jennifer Higgie
Jennifer Higgie is editor-at-large of frieze. She is the host of frieze鈥檚 铿乺st podcast, Bow Down: Women in Art History. Her book The Mirror and the Palette is forthcoming from Weidenfeld & Nicolson.
Olivia Laing
Olivia Laing is a writer and critic. She鈥檚 the author of To the River, The Trip to Echo Spring and The Lonely City, Her real-time novel Crudo was a Sunday Times bestseller and won the 100th James Tait Black Prize. She writes for The Guardian, New Statesman and frieze, and in 2018 was awarded a Windham-Campbell Prize in non-fiction.
Wolfgang Tillmans
Born in 1968 in Remscheid, Germany, Wolfgang Tillmans is regarded as one of the most influential figures working within photography today. Since the early 1990s Tillmans has been challenging the potentiality of making pictures. Tillmans has had prominent solo exhibitions at numerous international institutions since the early 1990s. A major retrospective of the artist鈥檚 work will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2021.
