Join us for an opportunity to hear Simon Starling discuss his practice in relation to his commission for the Duveen Galleries at Tate Britain. For this commission Starling took as the point of departure the Tate Collection and the building that holds it, producing an installation that challenges ideas of linear time and highlights the continuum of art practices, historic and contemporary. In conversation with Janet Harbord.
Simon Starling was born in 1967 and studied photography and art at Maidstone College of Art, Trent Polytechnic Nottingham and Glasgow School of Art. Starling was awarded the Turner Prize in 2005 and has had recent solo exhibitions at Tate St Ives and Kunsthal, Charlottenberg, Copenhagen. He lives and works in Copenhagen.
Janet Harbord is Professor of Film Studies at Queen Mary University, whose work engages with philosophies of screen media in a post-cinematic context. Harbord has written on Starling's work, as well as cinema of Chris Marker, the secret life of film and other material questions
