Enjoy a day of thinking and making at Tate. Work with artist Davinia-Ann Robinson, and alongside other teachers, to explore how being with art can develop your students’ emotional, intellectual and social wellbeing.
Through discussion and creative activities, you will:
- Experience how art in °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s permanent collection can be used to support your students’ learning.
- Engage with art as a powerful means for your students to express their ideas and experiences, and as a way of fostering empathy.
- Explore how art can create space for open and even difficult conversations.
- Reflect on your own experience of learning in the gallery to consider how to best support the learning and engagement of your students
- Experience art and culture as a significant tool for supporting young people as they navigate the challenges of both school and day to day life.
Drawing on how artists work, °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s Continued Professional Development and Learning for teachers champions the importance of process, supporting you to help your students develop divergent thinking skills in order to generate creative and critical responses.

What will the day involve?
Join artist Davinia- Ann Robinson, the Tate Schools & Teachers team and a cohort of teaching peers for a day of discussion, practical activities, reflection and collaborative working. You will:
- Spend time between the galleries and a dedicated learning space
- Share and create strategies for supporting teaching and learning with art
- Encounter new cultural references and consider strategies for decolonising your classroom
- Consider ways to take your learning from the day back to the classroom
- Make connections between your learning and that of your students
Lunch, refreshments and materials will be provided throughout the day.

Who is this event for?
The Schools and Teachers team believe that all young people should see themselves reflected in everything they encounter, both at Tate and in their classrooms. Working with teachers to best support young people to thrive, we celebrate difference and take a proactive, anti-discriminatory stance in all that we do.
We particularly welcome teachers from the Global Majority, Disabled teachers, and teachers in SEND schools or alternative provisions to attend.
This Study Day is relevant for teachers of any subject and will bring together professionals at any stage of their career, from a range of learning settings and specialisms.
