Join us at Tate Liverpool for Opening Doors 2013, a specialist course aimed at professionals working in a range of settings, including education, community, probation, health, social services and youth work. Opening Doors 2013 will introduce participants to modern and contemporary art and empower them to work in new ways with groups and individuals.

This year’s course will use Tate Liverpool’s Glam! The Performance of Style exhibition and Collection displays as stimulus to explore themes around creativity, health and well being.

Each week of the course will explore a different theme such as 'Arts and Health' and 'Diversity and Identity'. Sessions will comprise of group discussions, lectures from care and health professionals, workshops in the galleries, assisted research and individual tutorials. Course tutors will include Kathleen Edmonds, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Social Sciences, Glyndŵr University, and Sandy D’Silva, Independent Consultant in Child Centred Learning.

Participants will also be able to undertake the Open Awards accreditation (Level 3) as part of the course.  Participants wishing to do this will be given three assignments to complete, one of which is to facilitate a group visit with clients or service users. The Open Awards accreditation is a nationally recognised qualification and is part of the Open College Network (OCN) the UK's foremost provider of accreditation services for adult learning.  Open Awards offer a range of qualifications designed to meet the aspirations of learners who are seeking a stepping stone to their career, returning to learn or wishing to progress and build their skills and experience

There are no formal entry requirements or experience required to attend Opening Doors 2012, just an interest in art.

Places are limited to 16 people, priced at £333 (ex VAT), so book early to avoid disappointment. For more information, or to book a place, contact Alison Jones, Programme Manager for Public and Community Learning at Tate Liverpool, on 0151 702 7454 or Alison.jones@tate.org.uk.
