Joseph Mallord William Turner, The Lake, Petworth, Sunset; Sample Study ³¦.1827–8. Tate.

Turner Monet Twombly summer school provides a unique opportunity to explore the work of three pioneering landscape painters whose work spans over 200 years, revealing their shared fascination with light, the evocation of atmosphere and abstraction.

Led by Peak District artist Susan McCall, this 3 day course will capture a sense of place, movement through landscape, textures and light, and the dynamics between changing weather and solid forms.

Turner Monet Twombly summer school introduces landscape painting and its influence on current artistic practice. The course looks at how artists can capture movement and make use of creative spontaneity when working outdoors. Over three days participants will document an experience of a journey on the Mersey Ferry, focussing on the ever changing play of light on the river and waterfront. The course is introductory and participative, taught with a mix of discussion and practical art-making activities. Through talks, one to one tutoring, group discussion and practical art-making, the relaxed atmosphere allows participants to develop their own artistic responses through experimentation.

No previous experience necessary.

Price includes materials and entry to the Turner Monet Twombly: Later Paintings exhibition.
