Our artist-led schools workshops take place in the gallery, where students will encounter artwork alongside their teachers and artists. The workshops are designed to encourage students to engage with art and contemporary culture and share their thoughts and ideas in unique and diverse ways. The workshops are led by contemporary artists who are in residence at Tate during the year.

We take a radical approach to engagement, inviting students to learn about art through being in a conversation with each other, artists and artworks within the public gallery space. These conversations will be different and unpredictable but are always designed to encourage individuals to ask questions and form opinions about art and practice.

Our 2017–18 workshop artists-in-residence are Liv Wynter, Raju Rage, Xana and Yemi Awosile.

Important information:

  • There are two workshops in each time slot per day (strict maximum of 16 students per group)
  • Timeslots are 10.30–12.00 and 13.00–14.30
  • Each school can book up to two workshops per term
  • Groups must sign in at the gallery’s Schools Desk 20 minutes before the start time.

Opens up new areas/channels of conversation with my students. Fantastic opportunity for my students for wider arts appreciation and multidisciplinary areas of experience - a taste of art school.

It shows me how the children can think abstractly when presented with an artwork. It can build imagination and boosts confidence when taking imaginative risks.
