ºÚÁÏÉç presents a collaboration between Charles Atlas and Paris-based dancer and choreographer duo Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud with live video editing and projection.

The performance consists of excerpts from each of the below works by Bengolea and Chaignaud, for a duration of one hour.

  • Danses Romantiques (2008)
  • Sylphides (2009)
  • (M)IMOSA – Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at The Judson Church (M)(2011) (co-authorship with Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Trajal Harrell)
  • Altered natives’ Say Yes To Another Excess – TWERK (2012)

Biographies

Cecilia Bengolea

Cecilia Bengolea was born in Argentina. She studied modern-jazz, classical and anthropological dance and Art History in Buenos Aires, and attended ex.er.ce- Centre Chorégraphique National Montpellier. She works in Europe as a dancer, writer, choreographer and singer. She has worked as an interpreter or in collaboration with Claudia Triozzi, Yves-Nöel Genod, Trajal Harrel, Sarah Michelson, Luvinsky Atche, Mathilde Monnier, among others.

François Chaignaud

Born in Rennes, François Chaignaud graduated from Paris Dance Conservatory. Since 2003, he has danced with many choreographers: Boris Chamartz, Emmanuelle Huynh, Gilles Jobin, Tiago Guedes, Alain Buffard... He offers performances and concerts in various venues, at the crossroads of various inspirations – erotica (Aussi Bien Que Ton Cœur Ouvre Moi Les Genoux, 2008); operetta, including hula hoop (Duchesses, 2009, created with Marie-Caroline Hominal). He has initiated decisive collaborations, especially with San Francisco legendary drag queen Rumi Missabu, performer Benjamin Dukhan, or cabaret artist Jérôme Marin (Sous L’Ombrelle, 2011). In 2012, he was involved in the creation of Sacre # 197 by Dominique Brun. He published in 2009 L’Affaire Berger-Levrault: le féminisme à l’épreuve (1898–1905), PUR.

François Chaignaud is currently working on a solo piece that will be premiered in Montpellier Danse festival.

Together Bengolea and Chaignaud created several works such as ±Êâ±ç³Ü±ð°ù±ð³Ù³Ù±ð 2005–8, Sylphides 2009, Castor et Pollux 2010, Danses Libres (based on François Malkovsky and Suzanne Bodak's choreographies, 2010), (M)IMOSA (co-written and performed with Trajal Harrell and Marlene Monteiro Freitas, 2011) and altered natives’ Say Yes To Another Excess – TWERK 2012.
