Joëlle Tuerlinckx presents a new ‘lecture opera’ entitled «THAT'S IT!» (+ 3 free minutes) that brings together live music, projected images, spoken word and timed movement of the projectors, blinds and screens in ºÚÁÏÉç’s Starr Auditorium. This theatrical presentation draws upon Joëlle Tuerlinckx’s rich studio archive in an immersive piece that subtly alters the audience’s experience of the surrounding space using sound, images and light.

Tuerlinckx has selected a group of people, peers and friends from her professional life to read out a script and follow a series of movements on stage around objects that frequently appear in her work, such as bricks, wooden sticks, fabric  and rope. The groups movement is set to an extraordinary new musical score derived from a sound archive collated by Tuerlinckx and the Belgian artist Christoph Fink. The score is written and will be performed by Fink, accompanied by the artist Valentijn Goethals

«THAT'S IT!» (+ 3 free minutes) extends Tuerlinckx’s work that explores standard formats from paper sizes to pixels and from the formulaic presentation of news to repetitive gestures used in body language. The artist examines how these formats dictate and control our experiences, establishing expectations that we subconsciously conform to.

Please note that the duration of the piece is between 90 min and 120min; and that there is no intermission.

Joëlle Tuerlinckx lives and works in Brussels. Her practice is distinguished by its ephemeral, transient and contingent nature. Collections of objects, projections, drawings and music are often mixed with subtle alterations to the gallery space, and gestures that call attention to the time and space of the viewing experience. Her work has been presented internationally, including, most recently a travelling at Arnolfini, Bristol (2013), Haus der Kunst, Munich (2013) and Wiels, Brussels (2012). She has also exhibited at the Reina Sofia, Palacio de Cristal, Madrid (2009), MAMCO, Geneva (2007), The Drawing Center, New York (2006), The Power Plant, Toronto (2005), Ausstellungshalle Münster (2005), The Renaissance Society, Chicago (2003), South London Gallery (2002), documenta 11, Kassel (2002), Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht (2001), Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent (1999) and Witte de With, Rotterdam (1994).

«THAT’S IT!» + 3 free minutes is touring to If I Can't Dance at Het Veem Theatre, Amsterdam on 12 and 13 April 2014 and to Playground Festival at STUK, Leuven in November 2014.
