Join Emma Jones for this special tour focussing on Dora Maar as a provocateur

This tour will focus on Dora Maar as a provocateur, someone who incites action, who unsettles and disrupts. Maar worked through a time of societal and political upheaval. She witnessed the blossoming of the beauty industry and the ‘femme moderne’ in France, and embraced surrealism’s transgressive vision.

In her return to painting she explored her local landscape using the language of abstraction, before reconciling her interest in mark making with her late darkroom practise.

The tour will look at a number of Maar’s works as ‘provocations’ to engage with her practise, provide a contextual history, and to think about her work in dialogue with contemporary culture.
