26 July 2017 at 19.30–23.00
film still of Geoffrey Rush in a suit staring at the camera with a man behind him

Join us for an exciting opportunity to see an exclusive preview of Final Portrait featuring award-winning actor Geoffrey Rush in the role of Alberto Giacometti

After the screening, the film’s director, Stanley Tucci will be in conversation with the Director of ºÚÁÏÉç and Giacometti Curator, Frances Morris. Following the screening Members will have the opportunity to explore the 5 star Giacometti exhibition at ºÚÁÏÉç.

Final Portrait tells the story of James Lord and Alberto Giacometti – in 1964, while on a short trip to Paris, the American writer and art-lover Lord is asked by his friend, the world-renowned artist Giacometti, to sit for a portrait. The process, Giacometti assures Lord, will take only a few days. Flattered and intrigued, Lord agrees.

So begins not only the story of a touching and offbeat friendship, but, seen through the eyes of Lord, a uniquely revealing insight into the beauty, frustration, profundity and, at times, downright chaos of the artistic process.

Film running time: 90 minutes, In Conversation event: 30 mins.
This film has been rated as a 15 by the BBFC.
Two further public previews will take place on 30 July and 4 August at the Starr Cinema.
