The Legacy of Learning

30 May 2015 at 15.00–17.00
BMW Tate Live Thought Workshop 2 in 2013 photo by Simon Banham

As ºÚÁÏÉç prepares for its extension and a new way of engaging its audiences in learning, this event takes the BMW Thought Workshops programme of 2013/14 and other projects as a case study and departure point for a critical discussion around the following questions. What is the purpose and legacy of long-term projects in the art museum context? How have these projects and collaborations between artists and the public transformed the way we think about current artistic practice, learning and the role of the museum? How does an art institution and its function change when it invites the public to collaborate and co-shape its programme? How does the mixed economy funding model influence the nature and framework of the projects that it supports?

Join us for a unique opportunity to reflect on past activity and contribute your opinion to how institutions like Tate can create a different future.

Listen to the recording from this event:

Speakers include Richard Gregory and Renny O’Shea, Artistic Directors of , Victoria Lupton, Project Manager of and curator and researcher Alex Hodby.

Following this event, please join us for drinks to celebrate the launch of the publication If you had a year to change something, what would you do?

Biographies

Richard Gregory and Renny O’Shea

Richard Gregory and Renny O’Shea set up Quarantine in 1998 with Simon Banham to make theatre, performance and other public events. The work is made out of lengthy and intimate research with its performers and participants, often working with people who are rarely seen on stage. Recent touring includes: Festival de Otoño en Primavera, Madrid; Festival a/d Werf, Utrecht; Sadler’s Wells, London; HAU, Berlin; Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester; Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester; Fierce Festival, Birmingham; Barbican Arts Centre & BAC, London.
