Drawing on his work and collaborations across disciplines – from theatre, performance and dance, to visual art and literature – Etchells' keynote will explore the different frameworks and economies by which live works persist and circulate after initial presentations. Touching upon topics such as score, documentation and archive, repetition and transformation, liveness and presence, Etchells will address some of the key issues relating to performance, its place in culture and its much vaunted (though sometimes mourned) transience.
is an artist whose work spans many forms and contexts. He is best known for his role as the Artistic Director of , the world-renowned performance collective based in Sheffield whose collaboration began in 1984. Between August 2008 and October 2013 Tim Etchells was the recipient of a Legacy: Thinker in Residence Award, an initiative instigated by the Live Art Development Agency and Tate Research.
This event is organised as part of the research network Collecting the Performative which examines emerging practice for collecting and conserving performance-based art. This network is led by Tate and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University and is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.
