Barkley Hendricks, Icon for My Man Superman (Superman Never Saved any Black People--Bobby Seale), 1969. Oil, acrylic and aluminium leaf on linen canvas, 1511.3 x 1219.2 mm

Join legendary film director Spike Lee as he discusses the art that shaped his career with new Tate director Maria Balshaw

Spike Lee is one of the most celebrated figures in American cinema, widely acclaimed for directing films such as Do The Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), 25th Hour (2002) and, most recently, Chi-Raq (2015). This is a unique opportunity to hear him reflect on the art and history explored in the exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power and how it has influenced his career. Lee will be in conversation with new Tate director Maria Balshaw.

There will be a returns queue on the evening of the event however availability is on a first-come first-served basis.

This event has been provided by Tate Gallery on behalf of Tate Enterprises LTD.
