As ºÚÁÏÉç presents the first major exhibition of Steve McQueen’s artwork in the UK for 20 years, this is a unique chance to hear the artist discuss his practice. McQueen will be joined in conversation by Professor Paul Gilroy from University College London.
The conversation will be chaired by Clara Kim, The Daskalopoulos Senior Curator, International Art at ºÚÁÏÉç. The evening will be introduced by Frances Morris, Director of ºÚÁÏÉç.
There will also be an opportunity for audience questions.
Biographies
Steve McQueen
Steve McQueen is one of the most important artists, film-makers and screenwriters working today. Over the last 25 years McQueen has been influential in expanding the way in which artists work with film. He has been the author of some of the most seminal works of moving image designed for gallery-based presentation, as well as four films for cinematic release, Hunger (2008), Shame (2010), 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Widows (2018).
Paul Gilroy
Paul Gilroy is Professor of Humanities at UCL. He has been writing about Black art and culture in Britain for four decades and is author of several influential books including Small Acts (1993), Between Camps (2000), After Empire (2005) and Darker Than Blue (2010).
