Throwing Shade

Throwing Shade

A live performance by London-based producer , whose sound has been described as 'cosmic r&b' and 'digital soul'. Her music effortlessly covers the ground between seductive downbeat pop, pulsing club and contemporary leftfield electronic music. Drawing in iridescent strains of popular music – from African and Asian modes to the grime-y axis of London’s contemporary sound narrative – Throwing Shade creates a diverse and abstract sound patchwork, intangibly borne in the here-and-now.

Biography

is a rising London-based producer, DJ and NTS Radio presenter. Dazed and Confused have hailed her as 'London’s new alt-pop hope' and she has been receiving similarly positive accolades throughout the press, from Mixmag, Dummy, Fact, The Guardian, NME and The Fader. She received a 9/10 review from Mixmag for her debut EP, and charted in The Wire’s top 10 electronic releases of 2014. Her recent live session and interview on BBC Radio 1 showcased Throwing Shade as a key artist to watch on London’s emerging scene of new electronic music. She has released music on Ominira, No Pain In Pop, and Happy Skull. In November 2014 she was commissioned by the Tate Britain to produce a piece of music for one of the Turner Prize artists. Throwing Shade also presents a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio – a painstakingly researched showcase of weird and wonderful music from across the globe, which reflects her undergraduate studies in Ethnomusicology.
