UNIQLO Tate Play: Yoko Ono, Do it Yourself

Explore the gallery, use your imagination and take part in artworks by Yoko Ono.

In 1964, Yoko Ono published a book of instructions called 鈥楪rapefruit鈥. Some of the instructions are short, just one word long, and others have many parts inviting you to make, move and imagine. By following these instructions, on your own and with others, you are invited to take part in artworks. You can fold paper and read. You can dance with chairs. You can make a wish. You can sweep, breathe and whisper 鈥 together, alone or even in your mind!

At the start of your journey we invite you to fold an origami crane called an orizuru. This is a symbol of peace throughout Japan. Ono says that all her work is a 鈥榝orm of wishing鈥. For the artist, the most important wish is one for peace.

Ono invites you to imagine! This collective call to action is a provocation to change the world, one wish at a time.
