Description

[Translation/transcription]

1 Albert Studios
20 Albert Street
NW1

12 August 1970

Dear Pepi,

Many thanks for the card from Cornwall. Lucky you, going to Canada! Will you be familiarising the Canadians with our superficial European manners? They’ve learnt a thing or two since Seume’s day. Well, my best wishes.

I’m enclosing here an abbreviated transcript of a preprint. Is this a swindle or an honour? I haven’t replied to the letter yet, and I don’t know what I should do. (I’ve also received an offprint from an artist lexicon; they want some photographs of my pictures.)

Well, it’s all quite ridiculous and by no means my greatest concern.

I’m tormenting myself with my revolting paintings. I don’t have nearly enough and not one of them is how I should like it to be – the whole thing is more self-inflicted torture than painting. The deadline (and I haven’t heard anything to the contrary) is getting disconcertingly close. I still have no photos and no catalogue.

Well, all the best once again.

Sincerely,

Erich
