My dearest Master Hodinus,
Please send me the Vier Dramen [Four Plays] registered and by return post. Maria Becker is here in London with me and she's now the only actress I have for Eurydice since my poor Käthe Richter died of starvation in Berlin. She's staying here for another ten days and she's keen to read the play in which her mother, Maria Fein, also played a role as a debutant in Berlin. Becker really is an enormous talent. In Zurich I myself would direct, as well as doing the decorations. Please also send me the address for the black eagle. I want to ask him to send ham and [illegible] to my brother, since the first parcel has now arrived.
Please try to find a financial solution with him. Perhaps I could give you the money here before you leave. You will be coming with your lovely wife before you leave, I hope? I want to embrace the black eagle.
You'll get the Vier Dramen back as soon as Becker has read the play. The part of the book you read out was profound and poignant. I was amazed that another living soul really understands me in a way I thought no-one ever would!
