Description

Graphite and ink on paper, 444 × 276 mm

Pink cover cover, printed with 'Daler Lay-out pad'. Several pages are missing from the front of the book. This sketchbook was used in 1969¿70, after Adams had abandoned large scale sculptures in welded steel and turned to smaller works which he carved. It contains studies for a series of chromed steel blocks, and also studies for many of the ten or so Sicilian marble or stone sculptures of 1970. Also includes several pages of studies of the 'Stations of the Cross', possibly connected with a commission in 1969¿70 for the New Roman Catholic cathedral at Clifton, Bristol (the commission was never realised).
