Description

The letter covers the same time as seven special postcards, when Jacques and Berthe Lipchitz stayed in Toulouse, in 'the free zone' of France, after fleeing Paris, occupied by Nazis, and while waiting for the possibility to leave the country and enter the USA. Lipchitz entrusted the care of his house and his works of art to Jeanne Bucher. In the letter Bucher describes a visit by Le Mee and Dubaud at the Lipchitz' house. This house is main topic of the letter, because of the rumours about a law on requisitioning all empty dwelling. To avoid such an outcome she propose 'to put somebody' in the house but it should be a proper tenant. Dubaud came to her because he wants back some of his acquarelle paintings and sculptures, which are likely to be kept in the Licphitz' house. Jeanne also promises to send 2.000 francs soon because she 'returned her bank' and is going to sell some works of art.
