Description

This letter is a part of three, addressed by Andrei to Berthe and/or Jacques Lipchitz and dated from 15th, 16th and 20th December. All three were kept with the letter from Fanya Lipchitz to Jacques Lipchitz, 16 December 1934, in which she mentions 'letters from Andrei'. This one is dated as '20 December 1933', but the year should be considered a mistake, there should be '1933', judging by the related content and the paper, similar to the one on which letters from 15 and 16 December were written. All three are related to Andrei's request for a large amount of money, the purpose of which he does not explain. In this particular letter he again asks not to send money to his father, Mikhail Shimkevich. He writes that 'I live in Moscow with him and don't even think to return anywhere, he writes nonsense'. Andrei also instructs Jacques and Berthe how to answer Mikhail Shimkevich, when he will ask for money. He also says that the letters written by him from the Mikhail's house should not be taken seriously. Jacques and Berthe should answer his letter from Mikhail's house in order not to give him reasons for suspicions. Probably, all letters from Andrei, except these three, dated 15-20 December, were written under pressure from his father and were not sincere. Fanya writes on page 4. She informs that Andrei was at her place and he looked healthy, young and energetic.
