Description

In this letter, beginning 'Dear Lolly and Humph,' John Banting writes from a pub in the village of Rogate, to thank Humphrey Spender and his wife for letting him stay in their cottage [in Sussex]. He describes his difficult journey to get to the pub, beset by brambles, rabbit guns, and a 'crusty white terrier' with accompanying sketches. He continues saying has not heard from [artist] Len Lye's wife [Jane Florence Winifred Thompson], and does not expect to, but asks if they could 'send him' Derek Kahn [anthropologist and assistant editor of the Left Review, 1936-1938]. Reference is also made to a 'Barbara'/'Barbar', [? Barbara Ker-Seymer].
